Prepare for your next adventure with our Basic First Aid/CPR For Mariners course is an in-depth opportunity to practice skills needed to handle a range of medical emergencies in the maritime environment. Combining a highly experiential in-person training with our self-paced Maritime Medicine Online course, this program provides basic skills practice and knowledge needed to handle a range of emergencies that can happen at sea. This class is US Sailing accredited, meets World Sailing Offshore Special Regulation (OSR 6.05) Medical Training requirements, US Sailing Senior First Aid Requirements, and is also valid for US Coast Guard Merchant Mariner credentials.

Basic First Aid for Mariners certification, valid for 2 years
CPR: AED Adult/ Child/ Infant, valid for 2 years
Accreditations Include:
World Sailing Offshore Special Regulation (OSR 6.05) Medical Training requirement
US Sailing Senior First Aid Requirement
United States Coast Guard: Elementary First Aid training requirements of Section AVI/1 and Table A-VI/1-3 of the STCW Code and 46 CFR 11.202(b)(3); AND if presented within one year of the date of training, the First Aid and CPR training requirements of 46 CFR 11.205(e)(1)(ii) and 11.205(e)(2)(iii) for original issuance of an officer endorsement.

Manage risk through pre trip planning and preventative techniques: communications, 1st Aid Kits, sports nutrition and hydration, rider and equipment checklists, trip itineraries.
Assess and treat life threatening emergencies: Airway management, hemorrhage control, CPR, shock, and stabilization.
Practice common trauma techniques: Wound and fracture management, head injuries, neck and spine injury, blunt trauma, burns, dental and eye trauma.

Class will be held at Arabella's Landing Marina which is a beautiful destination for sailors located in Gig Harbor. Being in the heart of Puget Sound, this marina hosts wonderful protected waters and views of Mt Rainier. Gig Harbor has a rich maritime history that is wonderful to learn about and experience.

The class will be held on the docks of Arabella's Landing Marina. You will need to be able to get on and off the dock unassisted. The skills that are taught in this course require the ability to get up and down from the ground, kneeling, squatting, and some lifting. Please contact BMG if you would like more information about fitness requirements.

This course is held rain or shine and will require clothing suited for the weather. The following is a list of gear you will need to bring with you:
Hat (sun hat or warm hat)
Sun glasses
Gloves
Sunscreen
Rain Jacket
Warm layers
Appropriate footwear for on a boat
Water bottle
Food for lunch and snacks (lunch is not provided or available during the course)
